About Haringey

Haringey is a borough in north London, united kingdom. it borders the boroughs of Enfield to the east and barnet to the west and is adjacent to the Haringey ward of a harrow on the hill in the borough of Hillingdon to the north. Haringey covers an area of approximately 11 square miles (28 km2). Haringey is a diverse borough with a population of 247,300 (2011 census). Haringey has a long history dating back to the Anglo-Saxon period. it was originally part of the county of Middlesex, but became part of Greater London in 1965. Haringey is home to a number of landmarks including Alexandra Palace, Bruce Castle, and Highgate Cemetery. Haringey is also home to a number of parks and open spaces including Ally Pally Gardens, Finsbury Park, and Tottenham Marshes.

The London Borough of Haringey was established on 1 April 1965 by the merger of three former boroughs: Hornsey, Wood Green, and Tottenham. Tottenham became an urban district in 1894 and was created a municipal borough in 1933. Hornsey was an ancient parish, that merged with Wood Green in 1934 to form the Municipal Borough of Hornsey. The name Haringey is derived from the Anglo-Saxon name Haringe-ge, meaning “Here Haering’s people”.

Haringey is part of the historic county of Middlesex. In 1889, the administrative county of Middlesex was divided into metropolitan boroughs, and Haringey became part of the Metropolitan Borough of Tottenham. In 1965, the metropolitan boroughs were abolished and Haringey was merged with other areas to form the London Borough of Haringey.
